Angelito, the Flowerhorn

March 7, 2007 · Print This Article

Meet Angelito! My pet flowerhorn.

I just recently acquired a 15-gallon fish tank complete with filter case, water pump, and oxygen supply for free. This and a friend’s information that he saw a flowerhorn at Bio Research for only 60 pesos convinced me to set-up an aquarium.

So off I went to the said pet shop last Saturday expecting to spend around 500 pesos for the fish and its food. But lo and behold, the 60-peso flowerhorn was nowhere to be found! My friend probably confused another kind of fish for a flowerhorn.

So I ended up buying one which is around 3 to 4 inches in size for 340 pesos. I decided to buy a fish net as well because I don’t want the pricey fish ending up down the drain as what happened to my fighting fish during tank cleaning time. In order to ensure that the fish will live to grow old, I also grabbed a top grade hzen zhou food, anti-chlorine, some hose, pipes, and filter pad for the aquarium costing me twice than what I have expected.

So upon arriving home I immediately set it up. It was then that I discovered that the oxygen supply need to be replaced and that an aquarium lamp is very much vital for aesthetic purposes and so both were acquired the following day.

After two days of tension filled preparation to set up the aquarium, I am now enjoying the fruit of that labor. Feeding the fish and watching it play with the bubbles seem to have its therapeutic effects against tension and worry. This soothing and calm feeling will probably last until tank-cleaning time.

Angelito reminds me of my pet flowerhorn Mushu who I left in the Phils. Sayang, it was quite big already when I left. I got it when it was about 2-3 inches long. I had a post about him before sa Blogger account ko. Hehe :D
Have fun with your new baby! :D
